David has focused on providing professional expertise around the selling and buying of businesses since 1996. His successful projects include strategic acquisitions, corporate mergers, successful divestitures, corporate governance, and management consulting solutions.

Richard Asselin, Vice President

Richard brings a broad range of experience to the MAXIMA Group’s transaction advisory services. His background includes independent business entrepreneurship, mergers and acquisitions for mid-size companies, mortgage financing and funding, and business development for financial services. He was the project leader in a private investor fund for both commercial buildings and multi-family units, as well as several B2B distribution and supply chain operations. Richard has also worked with government officials and has a very strong sense of community.

Clayton Reeder, Project Analyst

Part of the MAXIMA team since 2014, Clayton has supported the valuation, marketing, due diligence, and transaction processes for more than 100 M&A-related projects. Before joining the MAXIMA Group, he performed post-acquisition audit support for a large operator of consumer entertainment facilities and provided research and financial consulting to evaluate the viability of a $2 billion dollar international transportation project. Earlier experience includes working for a major Canadian telecommunications company, where he analyzed distressed assets and helped qualify strategic acquisition targets. He also supported business development and operational improvements in its commercial services division. Clayton has experience as a copywriter and journalist, covering diverse areas such as economics, finance, energy markets, electronic entertainment, and culture. He is heavily involved in his community, organizing more than a dozen events each year which provide an avenue for education on issues pertaining to economics, finance, law, and ethics. He also writes pro-oil, pro-pipeline articles for CAEPLA’s quarterly Pipeline Observer magazine.

Abhishek Makkar, VP Corporate Development

Abhi joined the MAXIMA team in early 2021 and brings with him a broad range of experience in Accounting, Finance, Risk & Compliance, and M&A. Prior to joining MAXIMA, he worked for an oil and gas company and a tier one bank within the Mid-Market Mergers & Acquisition group where he advised companies on divestitures, acquisitions, and buyouts with successful closed transactions totaling $1.8 billion in enterprise value. He also worked for a big 4 accounting firm, where he obtained the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, working with a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from large public oil & gas clients to not-for-profit organizations. 

Abhi holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary along with his CPA designation.

Louise Poropat, Operations Liaison

Meet Louise Poropat, Operations Liaison at MAXIMA. Louise brings over 20 years of high-level corporate management experience to the MAXIMA team, and plays a key role in providing corporate administration and project support while ensuring the successful day to day operations of the business. 

Prior to joining MAXIMA Louise had roles in a range of industries including Hospitality, Labor Relations, Land Development and Construction. We are glad to have Louise onboard the MAXIMA team, and appreciate her contributions to the mutual success of our clients and the company.


Mathew Melnychuk, Financial Analyst at Maxima Divestitures

Matthew Melnychuk, Financial Analyst

Matthew joined the MAXIMA team at the start of 2022. Prior to joining MAXIMA, Matthew worked as a financial analyst for an acquisition and management firm where he provided advisory services correlated to assessing risk and evaluating micro and macro-economic trends in addition to providing support in the valuation, marketing, and ongoing reporting and analysis of six portfolio companies. Earlier experience includes working in the oil and gas industry, where he participated in monthly reporting, service line forecasts, utilization reports, and tasks aligned to analyzing cost and revenue projections.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Hons) with a major in finance from Mount Royal University and is currently in the process of pursuing a CFA designation.

Cal Stewart, CA, TEP

Partner: Kenway Mack Slusarchuk Stewart LLP

Cal is one of the four founding partners of KMSS and has dedicated his entire career to developing his tax expertise to service our clients. Cal earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974 and subsequently attained his CA designation. He is a member of DFK’s Americas Tax Committee and the International Tax Committee.
